Alight and Mourning

On they walk by, kind and caring
Thoughtfully hidden smiles shine in eyes
Slowly round the U they brush by me
Light hands and laughing children
Alive and alight in love and momentary peace

On they walk by, cold and thoughtless
Barely hidden scowls etched in hearts
Hurriedly bustling past my aged stones
Dark eyes and hungry minds
Clawing fingers and mourning faithful

NH Magazine is doing a series of poetry prompts by NH Poet Laureate Alexandria Peary for National Poetry Month 2021. These are my responses.

All images are by the writer, taken during the pandemic, and relevant to the poem.
